1st time dat OB n Agility trials r being held together, judged by d very experienced Mr Tan Pak Song from Spore. Carnival also featured d K9 Xgames with High n Long Jumper games, Best Kisser n Top Trickster, amongst others. Sponsors - Eukanuba were very generous with prizes n dey even offered token gifts 2 all participants.

Day kicked off with d OB trials at Ring A. Bout 25 competitors took up d challenge in Pre-novice to Open categories. Nice 2 c a Border Collie (Wind) from JB, n a rare Curly Coated Retriever (Kofi) from Penang amongst d trialers as well. Strangely enuf, there were a fair number of spectators at d OB ring who were watching d proceedings … unusual as OB hs never bn a strong spectator sport here.

Pre-novice class was dominated by MKA n PAAPP dogs who took d top 3 prizes. Novice class was won by Million d Sheltie from MKA n d PetnU dogs, Angel d BCollie n Ruby d Silky, took 2nd n 3rd placing respectively.

As part of d Carnival entertainment, I gave my regular Musical Freestyle demo to d tune of ‘Sway’. Was heating up at dat time, hence wasn’t too keen on doing a dance under d hot sun. Still v soldiered on n completed d 3 minute routine. Was jumpy as well n it ended up being a mediocre performance. Even missed d final ‘Paws on Feet’ trick n landed with my belly on my owner’s feet … mayb more apt 2 rename it d ‘Belly flop on Feet’ move.

Next, Henna n an imported Czech GSD gv a demo on protection n bite work which was precise n disciplined.

In between, d Xgames commenced in Ring C n Pacco took home d Long Jumper title with a soaring leap of 8 ft … crowd were impressed by her jumping ability. Pacco also later went on d seal d High Jump title with a grand effort of 28 inches. Best Kisser game was hilarious n Snowy d S’tzu took d Top Trick Dog title with some nifty dance steps. … who says S’tzus r only good as lapdogs?

Once again, I hd 2 forego d games as my owners were helping out in d events … dis is becoming a real chore as I cld only watch from d sidelines as me mates hd all d fun. Cn b a traumatic experience having 2 deal with all dis inactivity, so got grumpy n just bout growled at any male mutt dat came into my face or sniffed my butt. U cn already c d signs: ‘Caution, bored JRT’. Owners did let me take part in 1 game just to make up d numbers n u guessed rite, d Top Dog Model contest … grrrrrr!

Agility trials received an enthusiastic response with a total of 23 entries in Jumpers n Novice classes. Thank god, I was allowed 2 compete n cld finally stretch my legs n run riot 4 awhile. My PetnU mates made a nice sweep of most of d titles on offer with Russell (JRT) n Sissy winning d Jumpers class for mini n maxi dogs n Pacco taking 3rd place as well. Novice agility was also dominated by us with Angel winning d maxi title n Russell (ECS), Jr n I taking d mini titles. Made up 4 my off beat dance demo by registering a Clean Run (0 faults) timed at 36s, groovy!

Judge tried to put us off by reducing d contact area for mini category, throwing in multiple contacts on d Aframe n a tight ‘S’ jump sequence but v managed 2 pull thru, only just. Little did he know dat v hv bn putting in some practice on negotiating tight n twisty jump sequences. Jr also registered a fine, smooth run which earned him 2nd place, great effort in his very 1st trials. Crowd were well entertained by d agility runs in Ring B n even d judge joined in d applause on a couple of occasions.
